This months spotlight is on Jakk, who told us a bit about himself from what his job entitles here at MLG Healthcare, to what he wanted to be when he was younger.
Can you give us a two sentence bio about yourself?
I am a open minded person who loves new challenges and experiences. I try not to take life too seriously and enjoy the moment when I can
What do you do at MLG Healthcare on a daily basis?
Work hard to make sure nurses get the jobs they deserve! Especially my pool of nurses who work hard to make sure they are committing to shifts regularly.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
Being able to place nurses into the private hospitals they enjoy working at. This brings a sense of joy and also satisfaction that you have supplied a job to someone where they are enjoying their work (especially in the field nursing as you know you are potentially making a difference to people’s lives). Also, building working relationships and nurses telling me their daily stories. It’s very interesting to find out what they are going through in the workplace and is an eye opener for us consultants.
What advice were you given in your career that has stuck with you?
Do everything 100%, even if it’s not your 100%!! My football manager at university told me this, and it has really stuck with me in everything I do. If you are making your bed, make sure it’s made properly. If it’s a sandwich, make sure it’s a good sandwich. These simple little examples really opened my mind and screams out that whatever you put in, you will get back and that will always be the ethic I will have.
As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
Most young boys dreams – a footballer. At one point, I wanted to be an astronaut and also a teacher! At least I had a job in one of the 3 things I wanted to do (wasn’t an astronaut unfortunately).
How do you relax when you’re not at work?
I like to spend time with my family, friends and girlfriend as much as I can as that is priority. If I’m not doing that I will be either playing football or having downtime, through Netflix or reading. However, I am hoping to do a lot more travelling in the next few years, and that is something I am really looking forward too!
What accomplishment are you most proud of?
Achieving a degree – being one of the first in my family. Getting through the degree has taught me a lot about myself, more than the degree did and the struggles I value as an accomplishment rather than the degree itself!
What is your most treasured possession?
I am really struggling on this one – Only thing I can think of is a jumper I had when I was younger. I use to wear it all the time and it had Barney the Dinosaur on it and was bright orange! We have even named our dog Barney as I loved the show so much!!!
Tell us something different about yourself?
I spell my name with two K’s (After 24 years, I am still unsure about it though).
